Magda Gourinchas (b.2001) is an interdisciplinary french-american artist majoring in fine arts and minoring in animation & special effects and business administration at carnegie mellon university.
Part of her creative process is driven by feminist, political, and cultural situations that she sees as full of meaning. Perhaps living through the college transition and, shortly thereafter, the social isolation associated with covid-19 has made her turn inward. More recently, Magda has used graphic parody and hints of humor to represent canonical images and concepts such as therapy, aging, pain, and fear.
Perhaps this orientation comes from her origins as a French-American binational. France has a rich tradition of graphic novels and animation that she finds herself drawn to.
